Bundaleer to open 15 bed extension

15/05/2008 4:00:00 AM
BUNDALEER Care Services will continue its expansion program with the official opening of a 15 bed extension to its popular nursing home in Johnstone Street.

Bundaleer CEO Denis Marks said the 15 bed extension will be opened on May 22.

“This is the third stage of a development that commenced in 1980 with an initial 25 bed facility,” Mr Marks said.

“Just six years later an additional 15 beds were added to the site, showing just how successful and, more importantly, how the community had embraced the Bundaleer concept.

“This latest extension cost $2 million and continues to show Bundaleer’s desire to continue to expand to meet the needs of the community.”

Mr Marks said the other major factor involved in the extension was the fundraising work of the fundraising committee.

“The fundraising committee has been hard at work for a number of years but their focus right now is on raising funds to purchase new furniture for the extension,” he said.

“As well, the additional beds will provide plenty of opportunities for Bundaleer to employ extra staff to cater for the increase in bed numbers.”

The CEO added that the additional beds will also continue to assist with the viability of the nursing home into the future.

One of the most important uses of the additional respite beds will be to help in providing opportunities for people caring for love ones at home to have a break from that care, he said.

“We believe that these additional 15 beds will help address the future need for high level residential care which is an important point considering the increase in our ageing population.”
