Contentious power plant workshop details public

A COUNCILLOR workshop report dealing with a proposed power plant has been made public.

Council administrator Dick Persson asked for the February 5, 2007 report to to be shown to the public gallery at Thursday night’s extraordinary Port Macquarie-Hastings Council meeting.

It followed several former councillors’ claims they were in the dark about the full details of the proposal.

The report said this matter was submitted to the workshop to give councillors background information about the proposal and update the application’s status.

The report said representatives from International Power Australia and their consultants,URS, would undertake a short presentation about the proposal and planning process, and respond to queries.

“The power station will utilise distillate-fuelled generators due to the lack of available gas supply in the region,” the report said.

It said the council was negotiating over acquisition of the site.

Every councilor would have received copies of the workshop report but attendance at councillor workshops was not compulsory.

Minutes and a record of attendance were not taken.
