Men's health under the microscope

2/07/2008 10:05:00 AM
A FREE information day on Men’s health will be held in Wauchope on July 31 from 9.30am to 11.30am at the Wauchope RSL club.

The day is aimed to provide information to men on a range of health issues.

Health professionals will be available on the day to give free blood pressure, diabetes and health checks as well as provide information on prostrate cancer or bowel cancer.

Organisers are hoping the day will give men an opportunity to become more aware of their health, find out information on services available and ask questions of Health professionals.

Women are also welcome to come along and find out information for their partners, brothers or fathers.

This is an information day so there will be no record taken of those attending or pressure applied to seek medical advice or purchase any products.

Statistics show that Australian men are more likely to get sick from serious health problems than Australian women.

The poor health status of Australian men is complicated by the fact that men are more likely than women to shy away from medical treatment of any kind.

The lack of health awareness and unwillingness to adopt a healthier lifestyle also disadvantages men.

The main aim of a check-up is to detect illness at an early stage, or better still prevent illness occurring in the first place.

It is surprising how many conditions are picked up on routine medicals: diabetes, elevated blood pressure and skin cancers to name a few.

All men are invited to attend and put your health first.

For more information please call the Wauchope Neighbourhood Centre on 6586-4055.
