LOCAL Work-for-the-Dole program Supervisor Phil Pittis is continuing to build more projects that the community can enjoy while assisting job-seekers develop new skills and build their self-esteem.
Federal Member for Lyne, Mark Vaile, recently inspected Phil’s latest project where he supervised 26 job-seekers undertake an upgrade of Wauchope’s heritage theme park Timbertown.
“What Phil has been able to achieve not only with the participants he helps, but in developing so many high quality community facilities, is just outstanding,” Mr Vaile said.
“Many board walks, lookouts, community hall fit outs and the fencing to Oxley Oval to name a few, are just some examples of what great work has been done through this program.”
Timbertown’s railway station has been completely renovated with a new timber platform deck and picket fences while existing structures have been repainted. A number of bushwalks have also been created to accommodate bush theatre.
The project was undertaken in a collaborative approach between Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce, Wesley Uniting Employment and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
