THE event played by members of Wauchope Golf Club last Saturday, was a single stroke round which was contested in three grades.
Sponsor for the day was Greenbourne Nursery of Wauchope.
With conditions ranging from sunny to drizzling rain, scores in th sixties were scarce, as only five players managed to record a nett score of this calibre.
The best of these come from A grade, where three players, led by Shane Thomson, who achieved a score of 73 of the stick, for a nett 66.
Runner-up, with an 80-67, was arguably, the club’s most consistent golfer, “dark horse” Bob Dark.
Third, with the second-best round of the day, was Mitch Sibthorpe, with 74-68.
Fourth, with a score of 76-70, was Andrew Farrar.
Winner of B Grade, was Luke Stevens. He won from Peter Kime, following his round 84, for a nett 70. Fourth was Geoff Flemming, with easily the best score of 90 off the stick.
This returned a nett 70. Runner up on a countback was Steve Hannan with 93-71, from Wayne Byrne 99-71. Bruce White was fourth with 99-71.
Winners of gross balls were Shane Thompson 73, Craig Smith 84 and James Kennedy 90.
The big hitters and winner of long drive balls were matt Trotter, Paul Griffin and Alan Baker.
A Grade nearest the pins went to Mitch Sibthorpe 8m first hole, Matt Milne 62cms fourth, Richard Went 1.23, seventh and Peter Sly 5.46 18th.
B Grade: Rick Kennington 2.46, Quentin Henry 1.60, Geoff Flemming 1.90 and Ken Griffin 5.20.
C Grade: Noel Warren 9m, Bruce Cant 4.80, James Kennedy 1.55, Steve Hannan 5m.
The medals were supplied by Russell Harris holiday Coast Business Partners, the field was 206, Shane Thompson won the guzzlers mug, and Ron Warner a carton in the member’s draw.
The event on Saturday is a single stableford sponsored by the Laurie Family.

Only one grade was played, the winner was Ray Knapp with great round of 44; Runner- up was Haward Ashby 39; third following a four-way countback Geoff Kennedy fourth Rob Williamson, 38.
The two to miss out were Alan Flaherty and scratch marker, Andrew Kirkman.
The CCR was 70, 37 points; the ball comp went to 35. Nearest the pins in A grade, Paul Stewart 1.08, David Mills, 1.09, Kevin Wilcox 17cms; B grade, Rod Richards 60cms, noel Turner 12 cms, Alan Rudd 1.36.
