Winunga records two draws

WAUCHOPE’S B Grade Women’s Winunga were able to back up their first win last week with two draws.

The first was against Port City on Monday night.

With only nine players Winunga were able to hold Port City to a 0-0 draw. On Wednesday night Winunga fought hard against the aggressive Crescent Head side but at half time were one goal down.

With the play mostly between the 23 metre lines in a very even second half it was Wauchope’s Jodie Foster who evened it up in the 20th minute. Winunga refused to play defensive hockey and were able to force the draw.

B Grade Women’s Wapiti played on Saturday night against Tacking Point Thunder and came away victors 2-1 with goals to Lauren Dickinson and Sharon Griffiths.

The A Grade Warriors had a steady 3-0 win against Port City on Saturday night. Goal scorers were Jess Galloway, Rebecca Rogers and Jodie Morris.

Wauchope men went down 2-0 to Whalebone in the top of the table clash on Saturday. Whalebone got off to an early lead, but Wauchope fought hard and were very unlucky not to level the scores on several occasions.

Wauchope were denied several chances to score. Stephen Sloane showed a lot of improvement down the wing and was close to scoring a couple of times.

Brad Speedy was also very strong in defence.
