WAUCHOPE Primary School have put in an amazing effort to come away from the Lower North Coast Cross Country Carnival with the Champion School Shield.

The carnival held on Friday May 30 attracted the top runners in the Lower North Coast region.

There were plenty of brilliant individual efforts that helped the school lift the shield but the endeavour of all 31 runners was fantastic.

Teacher Ray Lind was thrilled with the result.

“It’s a fantastic achievement,” he said.

“As well as displaying outstanding athleticism the children were very supportive of each other as a group and were a pleasure to take away.

“I also want to thank all of the wonderful parents who gave up their timer to support the children and to provide the essential transport for the event to occur.”

Seven of the school’s best athletes will now travel to Murwillumbah to compete in the North Coast Cross Country Carnival.

Georgia Williams who placed first in the 8-9 yr girls, Cameron Styles 4th in 11 years boys, Laura Cook, 2nd 12-13 years girls, Scott Dickson 3rd 12-13 years boys and Eliza-Jane Costigan, Chloe Houseman and Mitchell Dickson.

Other outstanding efforts placing in the top ten cam from Chloe Cooper, Travis Harris, Jacquelyn Thomas and Aaron Powell.

There were over eighty children running in each race which highlights how great an achievement the win is.
